House to Home

Easy Room Update with Wall Stickers from Nutmeg Wall Art

We decorated Ava’s room when we first moved into our house over three years ago. Now, its time for a quick and easy room update with wall stickers! Ava is a true artist and will not be constrained by paper alone. So she ‘decorated’ the area above her bed with all manner of drawings and stickers. Although I love her to express her creativity, it was starting to look very tatty.

Originally, I decided on quite a traditional, pretty look, using the cream furniture we brought from our old spare room. I hung up hand made bunting from our wedding, and a matching quilt my mum made. I’m using this to disguise a poorly executed painting of a Union Jack flag that the house’s former owner saw fit to paint on one wall! No matter how much we paint it, it shows through, as the original paint was so thick.

Quick and Easy Room Update with Wall Stickers

I was lucky enough to win a lovely set of white frame wall stickers from Nutmeg Wall Art Stickers last month, and realised they would be perfect for above Ava’s bed.

Ryan painted the wall after I sanded down the greasy bits from the blue tack. I chose a dark grey we had in the garage. We have a number of greys in there, as once we tried them on the wall, we got nervous as they were too dark! It actually looks great, not too dark at all on just one wall, and goes well with the pale grey on the other walls. I was a bit sad to paint over some of Ava’s art.

I was so glad to see the back of this lot though! Ava's wall with posits and scribbles

Once we had our nice clean grey wall, we had to wait for two weeks for it to dry properly, as per the Nutmeg Wall Art instructions.

Applying the Wall Stickers Is Quick and Easy

All you need is the pack of stickers, which came rolled in a cardboard tube, plus scissors, a credit card or squeegee and some masking tape. The stickers come with easy-to-follow instructions. Materials needed to apply wall stickersI did a test sticker to see how easy it was. It turned out to be so straightforward, and I was really pleased with the result.

Deciding On The Pattern for Our Quick and Easy Room Wall Stickers

I cut out the stickers roughly, and taped them to the wall with masking tape. I stuck them up and adjusted them until I had an arrangement I liked. Then it was time to get sticking! I started with the biggest one, in the centre, and worked my way out.

I have added a few pictures for now, until Ava chooses or makes her own.

There’s postcard that Ryan sent the girls from one of his work trips, a picture of the girls on the beach last year, one of Ava’s pictures and a couple of cards I’ve been saving. There’s one blank space to fill, and Ava can (and will!) replace my choices with her own.Quick and Easy Room Update with Wall Stickers

All in all, it probably took about an hour to do this, including trimming the pictures to size and faffing to get the right arrangements. Ava is over the moon with it and can’t wait to replace some of my pictures with more of her own. Let’s hope she sticks to washi tape this time!

Why not Pin this for later?
