My Favourite Family, Things I Love

ThrowbackThursday: the arrival of a new baby brother

My new nephew Jack arrived last week, and he is a complete poppet. Seeing how Jack’s big sister Bonnie and my girls have reacted to him (think excitement and wonder) reminded me of this lovely snap of when Jack and Bonnie’s dad (my brother) arrived.

The Fielding kids in 1984

Me, Pete, my Dad and Debbie when Pete was a newborn baby.

I presume my mum took the picture, as she’s not in it. Look how tired my poor dad looks! I know how he feels now. As this was the mid 80s, I think mum must have stayed in hospital for a few days, or even longer, so took things to make her feel a little more at home. You can see a framed picture of me and my sister wearing our matching yellow macs and sou’westers in the background. That is still up at my parent’s house, but in a nicer frame.

I remember going to meet Pete quite vividly as I was about the same age as Ava is now (and her memory never ceases to amaze me!) But I also remember being waaaaay more excited that Pete had apparently been to a shop and bought us a Sindy doll each. You can see mine peeping into the picture as I squeezed her tightly. They were ballet dancers and we loved them so much.

Pete looks so tiny here but he was a whopping ten and a half pounds! Mum remembers overhearing a nurse or midwife saying “And she’s only a little woman!” about her, and then looking sheepish, as she lugged about a baby that was twice as big as some of the other newborns.

Yeah none of this chucking you out the best day like we get! Though I don’t know about you, but I was so thankful to get back to my own bed, and away from all the snorers in my ward! Xx

Oh I love this! And welcome baby Jack. I swear I remember the two new nighties (and the Lego garage my brother received) more than the actual second baby brother arrival. 80’s parental guidance!

Lovely photo! bring back memories… I gave birth to a 10.10 baby too and the nurses were also shocked as I was petite, even the Doc initially told me that I wont give birth to a big baby despite of my very huge tummy. But I did, both my kids are big babies! #ThrowbackThursday

Oh my word, well done you! Thea was 9.1 and when she came out, we were all so shocked, especially as her big sister Ava was only 6.12! Our bodies really are incredible aren’t they! Xx
