How To Get The Right Sized Salt-Water Sandals

Sandal season: the best time of the year, right? I’m wearing my lush gold Salt-Water Sandals at every opportunity. I’ve been eyeing them up for years now, but have always been put off by the sizing. They are known for having unusual sizes, and the fact they aren’t readily available to try on makes it tricky to find the right sized Salt-Water Sandals.

Salt-Water Sandals had a sale on recently, and as I knew I’d be spending a lot of time on the beach in St Ives, I decided to treat myself. They have a print off sizing guide which I used, but as you have to pay for postage, but not returns, I hedged my bets and bought three pairs, so I could send two back.

When they arrived, I was not disappointed, they look gorgeous.Gold Original Salt-Water Sandals with box

I love the colour and the gold buckles.

How To Choose The Right Sized Salt-Water Sandals

I Googled Salt-Water Sandal fit guides but nothing much came up so I wrote one, in case you have the same dilemma as me!

Step 1: Print off the size guide, making sure to print at 100%.
Step 2: Step onto the size guide and check out the size they recommend.

I am normally a UK 5 1/2 to a 6, but often go down to 5 for sandals.

According to Salt-Water’s printed guide, I am a 6. On their website, they suggest going up a size, so I ordered a size 6 in the Original style and a size 6 and a size 7 in the Classic style. Delivery was fast, and they use a signed for service, so I made sure I was in to accept the delivery! I thought the bigger sizes would be better, but when I tried all three pairs on I was so glad I’d ordered a 6 too:

So from my experiment, you can see that the printed fit guide is right. The line your toe hits is where the stitching would be for the next size up. So my toe hits size 5 and the size 6 fits perfectly. They do feel tight to start with, but the leather does loosen quite a lot, especially if you get them wet so don’t worry!

How To Make Salt-Water Sandals Fit Perfectly

The two Size 7 pairs were sent back, and I wore the Size 6 around the house. They did rub a little, so I followed the instructions in the box to make them fit perfectly. Instructions for the perfect fit in the Salt-Water Sandals box

I worked the leather a little, but took to Instagram to see if anyone I knew had soaked their sandals in water. A few friends said they had, so I took the plunge. Literally!

You just wear them until they dry, which feels a little odd but works like a charm. Original Gold Salt-Water Sandals on a blue floor

My Salt-Water Sandals now fit perfectly, with no rubbing at all. They are so comfortable I wore them every day on my holiday!

I am already planning my next pair of Salties. They are the most expensive sandals I’ve bought, but I know they will last for years to come. I’m trying to live a more sustainable life, so buying quality once, rather than several poor quality items makes sense to me.

I have recently bought the pale pink versions, and love them just as much!

Where is your favourite beach? We spent the morning on our new favourite at #holywellbay in #Cornwall – it’s simply stunning and has a natural lagoon so it’s ideal for kids to splash about safely. We will be back! And if you’re looking for the perfect summer #sandals may I recommend @saltwatersandals_europe 💗 I got gold ones last year (still looking as good as new) and added these pale pink beauties to my collection this summer. They never rub, and can be worn in water 🙌🏻 I’ve been wearing one of other pair for the last two months am sporting a Saltwater tan 😝 I wrote a fitting guide on my blog as their sizing can be a bit confusing, click on the link in my bio to read. (Not an ad, I just love ‘em) #sandytoes #saltwatersandals

Thank you so much for this super helpful review/guide! I read it before I bought my first pair of salt-waters (rose gold originals) and they have just arrived. I’m in love! They are snug (I have wide feet but nothing extreme) but I’m going to soak them and let them dry on my feet. This sentence “They do feel tight to start with, but the leather does loosen quite a lot, especially if you get them wet so don’t worry!” is very reassuring 🙂

    Thank you again!

Ah thanks so much for letting me know you found the guide useful, I hope you love them as much as I do. I’m jealous of you getting the rose gold ones, they are gorgeous- I got them for my daughters and really want some to twin with them! Xx

Hi, love this review. I have just received 2 pairs of the originals in tan. I am a UK size 7 and I printed out the guide from the website. It would suggest an 8 for me so I ordered both a 7 and an 8 to try. I ordered from Fat Face as it was free delivery and I had 15% off. I found the 8 to be too wide – I do have narrow feet. I find the 7 a good fit although my toes hit the stitching but that doesn’t bother me. I do find they feel “lumpy” underfoot though – did you experience that? I think it’s where the straps are stitched in. Just wondering if that disappears.

Any help would be great – in a dilema whether to keep them as they are a considered purchase but like you want to invest in them!

Ooh that’s a tricky one, I haven’t noticed any lumps under mine and have two pairs now. I think you’re right to go with the smaller one though, as they do stretch a bit as you wear them, so even if they feel a little tight to start, they ease up. I wonder if you should swap them for a differing pair in a 7 in case you got some strange ones? Like you say, it’s a lot of money to spend, you don’t want to get it wrong! Xx

May I know what is your US size?

Hi Gwen, thanks for reaching out. My UK size is a 6 and US sizes are two higher, so I am a US 8. But I’m not sure how that relates to Saltwater Sandals US sizing I’m afraid! Wouldn’t it be easier if there was just one sizing scheme throughout the world! xx
