Ava’s not very keen on Halloween
I think this is probably be the best photo I have ever taken. It was two years ago at Ava’s nursery Halloween disco. It pretty much sums up how I feel about Halloween.
Not a popular way of thinking, I’ll admit. I don’t like all the ghosts and spiders and witch decorations that are about at this time of year. I want my house to look pretty, not scary!
I don’t like trick or treaters, unless they are under ten. Fair enough if you want to traipse around in the freezing cold, dark nights, but I for one, cannot think of anything worse! My mum used to hand out satsumas instead of sweets, and asked the kids to come back and sing Christmas Carols in December. Word soon spread to avoid our house!
I normally take a different approach. I turn off all the lights and hang out in one of the rooms that doesn’t face the street, and pretend there is none at home.
But now that we have kids, we do let them take part by getting them costumes. I only ever get them cats though, and borrowed a pumpkin from a friend for Ava’s first Halloween.
I don’t want to make Ava scared of bats and spiders. Well, given her latest tricks I wouldn’t mind if she was a bit scared of spiders but Ava has a very active imagination (just like her mother) and is already freaked out by a song they’ve been singing at school. She says she can’t sleep as there’s a ghost behind her.
Am I the only one who doesn’t like Halloween? For me, the only good thing about it is that after it’s all over, Christmas can get going!
