Dishwasher tablets. Not the most glam subject, but one that can have a significant eco impact. So as with everything in our lives, I am trying to find the most eco-friendly dishwasher tablets that I can. As a family of four, we run our dishwasher most days. Especially in the school holidays. Recently we’ve been using Bower Collective Lemon Eco Dishwasher Tablets, so I thought I’d write a quick review to show how happy I am with them.

Why Choose Eco Friendly Dishwasher Tablets?
Did you know that the dishwasher tablets you can pick up at the supermarket are likely to contain chemicals that are harmful to marine life? And possibly to humans too? And all the packaging I’ve seen has been plastic. Some may be recyclable but the percentage of plastic that actually gets recycled is frighteningly low – just 9% according to MIT! They say 19% has been incinerated, and some of it reaches the sea; estimates suggest that between 8 million and 11 million tons of plastic waste enter the ocean each year.
That’s one reason I’m a huge fan of refilling things wherever possible. I do recycle everything possible, but sadly our local refill shops have closed down, so instead, I’m investigating UK companies who do refills instead. One of them is Bower Collective.
What Makes Bower Dishwasher Tablets Eco Friendly?
Bower Eco Dishwasher Tablets come in an FSC recycled cardboard box, which can of course then be recycled again. These eco dishwasher tablets are plastic waste free, and have a water soluble film, so you just pop them straight into your dishwasher drawer.
Eco Dishwasher Tablets from Bower Collective are made using 87% naturally derived ingredients, which are ethically sourced and environmentally responsible. They have a faint lemon scent, which I prefer to heavily scented products, and I can’t smell it at all when I open the dishwasher drawer after a cycle. They are vegan and carbon neutral, and Bower Collective is a UK company with B Corp certification.

So how well do Bower Eco Friendly Dishwasher Tablets actually work? Really well in my experience, and I’ve been using them for a few months now. These eco dishwasher tablets work on low temperatures, and on baked on food and leave dishes and glasses sparkling clean, with no horrible chemical taste that I have experienced with other dishwasher tablets.
They also tackle tea stains on cups, which I found to be tricky when I tried eco dishwasher powders in the past. We have VERY hard water, and I think that might be why other eco options haven’t worked that well. So I’m really happy that these are performing so well.
I find I need to add rinse aid to our dishwasher. I always use lemon white vinegar and it works perfectly, at a fraction of the cost of rinse aid (and eco friendly).
So let’s see the proof! Here is a before and after of a greasy pan with fried on pasta, which I washed in our dishwasher using Bower Eco dish tablets on an eco setting:
How Much Are These Eco Friendly Dishwasher Tablets?
I think Bower Eco Dishwasher Tablets are good value. You get 72 tablets in a box, and a subscription is £16.49, making them 23p a wash, however unless you spend £40 you have to pay £3.99 for delivery, so overall they come out to 27p a wash.
As a comparison, Smol Dishwasher Tablets, which I used to use, are £6.30 for 30 tablets, which is 47p each.
That’s a no brainer for me!
Or get a Kitchen Sink Starter Kit, which has two reusable pump bottles, and refill pouches of washing up liquid and hand soap as well as the dishwasher tablets.
Should You Swap To These Eco Dishwasher Tablets?
Swapping to these eco dishwasher tablets is a firm yes from me, both from a cost perspective and because of the lesser environmental impact.
