Girls and accessories. I don’t know about you, but we are drowning in hair bobbles, hairbands and bags. It was bad enough when I was the only girls in the house, but now there are three of us. I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as Ava and Thea are just as keen on accessories as me! So I have made a cute upcycled accessories organiser for their new playroom. It’s so easy to do I thought I’d show you how to do it.
This is my favourite kind of project as it uses stuff I already have, and prevents landfill! Read on to see how to make the easiest ever accessories organiser!
A few months back, I showed you how to make an indoor garden using an old cot side. Well, this accessories organiser is made from the other sids of the girls’ old cot bed. Being white, it goes perfectly in their playroom. And this one requires no DIY whatsoever.
Want You’ll Need To Make an Accessories Organiser
It couldn’t be easier to make my accessories organiser, you’ll just need:
- An old cot or cot bed side
- S-hooks
- Spray paint (optional)
If you don’t happen to have an old cot side, you could use a wooden ladder, like this one I found on Amazon.
I found some old IKEA S-hooks in the back of a cupboard, but realised I needed more, so have a mix of two styles. To tie them into the white and gold theme of our playroom, I sprayed them with a couple of coats of Rustoleum Brilliant Metallic Gold Spray Paint.
I think it makes all the difference! I also had some clips which I sprayed too.
Simply lean your cot side against the wall, and arrange your accessories over it, using the S-hooks. If you have small children, you might need to secure the cot to the wall, but as mine are five and seven, we are fine to leave it leaning.

What We Store on Our Accessories Organiser
The girls have an impressive collection of head bands, clips, wands and bags, so we pop them all on our accessories organiser, so they can easily find them. I’ve also hooked on a couple of embroideries I made for them, some inspiration quotes, and a small mirror.
I found the white square organisers in the Magpie sale. They have magnets on the back, so they can stick to the S-hooks too. So what do you think of my up-cycled cot side organisation station? I’d like to say it always looks this neat but kids use it so it tends to look a *little* messier.
