Maybe you’ve seen Funny Deodorant advertised on your social media and are looking for Fussy deodorant reviews, wondering if it actually works! This review of Fussy Refillable Deodorant is for you!
Over the past ten years or so I have tested loads of natural deodorants, with a lot of disappointing results. But I have found a few gems! And after using it for about a year, I’m pleased to say that Fussy zero waste refillable deodorant is added to my list of favourite natural deodorants that actually work, but do read on for a caveat!
Fussy natural deodorants are more affordable than my other favourite natural deodorant from The Natural Deodorant Co., and are zero waste. So read on to find out if you should give it a try too.
But first, a bit about why you might want to use deodorant instead of anti-perspirant.
What’s the Difference Between Deodorant and Anti-Perspirant?
Typical antiperspirant deodorants function by preventing perspiration. They generally use aluminum salts to block the pores, stopping or reducing the release of sweat. When some sweat manages to escape, the deodorant works to minimize or mask the resulting odour when it reacts with the air. Essentially, the antiperspirant component aims to prevent sweat from exiting the armpit, and the deodorant part is useful when some perspiration does break through.
Deodorants don’t prevent sweating; instead, they eliminate the bacteria that causes unpleasant odors. This lets you naturally perspire without worries about body odour. While most conventional deodorants use alcohol to combat bacteria, it can be harsh and affect not only the odour-causing bacteria but also other beneficial bacteria on your skin. Ever experienced a stinging sensation under your arms after shaving? That’s probably alcohol entering your open pores. Yuk.
Why Choose a Natural Deodorant?
Natural deodorant will not stop you sweating, as it’s not an anti-perspirant. Instead, natural deodorant neutralises the smell that happens when sweat comes into contact with bacteria.
Most anti-perspirant deodorants contain ingredients that I choose not to put on my skin, or at least minimise as much as I can. These ingredients include alcohol, triclosan, aluminium, pthalates, parabens, propylene glycol and artificial fragrances.
Thankfully, there are natural deodorants that work so well to eliminate the smell, whist allowing your body to do what it should do: sweat. I know this may not be for everyone, and that’s fine. But if you are looking for a natural deodorant that actually works, and doesn’t make your skin react, and is refillable, Fussy is for you!
About Fussy Refillable Natural Deodorant
Aside from being an eco-friendly, natural solid deodorant that works, Fussy has a few unique elements that I want to tell you about.
The cases of Fussy refillable deodorant are plastic, which I try to avoid when I can. However this is made from recycled plastic and can be recycled at the end of its life. And because it’s refillable and very sturdy, I predict many years of refills ahead!
The Top 5 Reasons I Like Fussy Deodorant
- It comes in a multitude of fragrances, and many gorgeous colours so it suits everyone and every taste.
- Fussy deodorant is great for travel as it’s a solid, not a liquid, and of course, no unpleasant clouds of pungent spray either!
- The deodorant refills are plastic-free, made from waste sugarcane and once empty will just decompose in your garden or the bin.
- You can sign up for a subscription to get a refill delivered every three months so you never run out. This also saves you money.
- Fussy deodorant contains Lactobacillus, a probiotic commonly found in yogurt, as their secret ingredient. It combats bad bacteria by literally “eating” sweat, promoting good bacteria in your underarms.
How To Use Fussy Refillable Natural Deodorant
When you first get a Fussy deodorant, you get an empty plastic case, and a cardboard box with a compostable deodorant refill cartridge inside. To assemble your natural refillable deodorant, you just pop off the top of the refillable case, and the collar, add the natural deodorant cartridge after removing its protective cap, add the collar, and twist it up to the right level to apply. That sounds complicated but trust me, it’s easy.

As you use it, you just twist the bottom up, to reveal more of the solid deodorant.
When you reach the bottom of the cartridge, you just open the collar again, remove the old cartridge to add to your compost or recycle and add the next one after twisting the case all the way down again. I find the refill cartridges last 3-4 months which I think is very good value.

Does Fussy Deodorant Actually Work?
Yes, Fussy natural deodorant does work apart from on the hottest days. What I love about Fussy zero waste deodorant is that it’s mess-free and doesn’t take any time to dry. Because it’s a solid deodorant, you just swipe it on like the old-skool deodorant your mum may have had in the 80s. But with all natural ingredients and reusable packaging!
I love the citrus Wide Eyed fragrance: mandarin peel, grapefruit and black pepper. But there are loads of other fragranced including florals options, minty, woody and unscented versions.
The main range contains bicarbonate of soda – a natural odour buster used to neutralise sweat. And that did cause irritation for my daughter, so she had to stop using it.
Fussy do have a range of sensitive skin natural deodorants, without bicarbonate of soda, but I haven’t tried them, as past experience with other brands without bicarb hasn’t been good. So I would say this is worth trying if you don’t have sensitive skin.

What About A Transition Period?
Some people report a transition period when swapping to a natural deodorant, as the body adjusts to not having antiperspirants. Personally I have never found this, but if you do, try to stick it out if you can!
My Verdict on Fussy Refillable Natural Deodorant
I find Fussy refillable natural deodorants work perfectly most of the year, but haven’t quite cut it for the very hot days in summer. So for that reason, I am going to use them for about 95% of the time, and use my trusty Natural Deodorant Co Active Deodorant Balm for the height of summer, or if I ever go to a hot country.
