Reasons to be Thankful

Happy Thanksgiving! Although I’m not American, I am an Honorary Texan (yes, that is a thing!) and my cousin and I spent a wonderful Thanksgiving in Atlanta with my honorary second American parents Bruce and Joyce when I was a student. Anyway, American or not, I think it’s a great idea to remember all the things we are thankful for.

I’m sitting typing this in front of a real fire in our very cosy cabin in CentreParcs, drinking a glass of red wine. So I am very very thankful for that, for starters! I’m having a lovely few days with Ryan and the girls, and we feel very lucky to be able to spend this time together.

It’s been so wonderful seeing the girls splashing about in the pool, especially Thea, who has not been a huge fan of swimming before. Her confidence has really grown over the past two days, to the point where she’s voluntarily sticking her head under squirters, and doing little dances of joy. I’ll be posting about our little holiday soon but here is a taster – yes there is fake snow!

I’m so thankfulย for my wonderful mum, and brilliant dad, and the rest of my immediate and extended family, and my close and longstanding friendships: I love this text exchange with one of my oldest friends Elise (not in age, though you mayย be forgiven for thinking that once you’ve read it!) You know someone is a keeper when they tell you about Nectar points promotions.

Text messages from a best friend

I’m also super excited about my new cyber friendships through blogging and other social media, who just get me, even thought I haven’t met them in real life.

We don’t have loads of money, thanks to my decision to go freelance a year ago, but we have enough (and thanks to a tax rebate, we managed to afford our little holiday, yay!). And the extra time I have with the girls more than makes up for the extra money. We don’t need any more stuff, our house is crammed as it is!

Soย rather than rambling on about all the things I’m thankful for, I made this little picture, which kind of sums it up. I used some of the ideas from a post I saw on Facebook (though I can’t remember who from, do tell me if you know please, so I can credit them!) and I added a few of my own. The image is of Holkham Beach in Norfolk, which is one of my favourites.

Be Thankful

It’s so easy to moan about the little things, but with all the awfulย things that are going on across the world, I have nothing to complain about at all.

Have I missed anything? What would you add?

I wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving. Give those loved ones an extra squeeze. They are what counts.

  11. That’s a great list of things to be thankful for and I am happy that even though you aren’t an American you have taken the time to honor an American holiday! Thanks so much for that. I believe that thankfulness is a universal theme that can be used by anyone at anytime. I’m glad you’re an honorary Texan though and with that I say Happy Thanksgiving! Visiting from #coolmumclub
