Recreating the photos of our childhood… ready for a laugh?

A few months back, it was our parents’ fortieth wedding anniversary. So if that doesn’t call for a party, I don’t know what does! We helped them organise a brilliant day at their house (luckily they have plenty of space, as they also have lots, and lots, of great friends).

As a surprise, we (mainly my sister Debbie) trawled through the old photo albums, in search of a few photos we could recreate. There were some amazing ones, but often required a trip to a foreign country (difficult on our budget!) or some clothes or props we just couldn’t lay our hands on.

After much laughter, we narrowed it down to three from the late eighties/early nineties, and spent a very merryย afternoon, attempting to get as close to the original as possible. I cried with laughter throughout. Ryan was the art director and photographer. The results, I think, are pretty spectacular. As was the reaction when people noticed what they were. We just casually left them out on the piano and waited for people to look at them.

The original was in America. And we had to improvise with the dog. I couldn’t find any adult-sized Snoopy leggings, so I used masking tape. Which kept falling off.

Thanks to Pete’s friend who lent us the golf clubs. As you can tell, we aren’t natural sport-players.

By this time, the masking tape had started falling off. We have NO idea what we were doing here. We were very strange kids. The walking-stick thing in Debbie’s hand is a kind of mobile seat on a pole that folds up, called a shooting stick, or flipstick. My dad still hasย it. I had to wear a vest under my t-shirt to protect my modesty, and Debbie wore some maternity trousers, but they stillย weren’t quite wide enough.

Just looking at these again is making my cry with laughter. Have you ever recreated past photos? If not, I would urge you to find your own comedy photos and try and recreate them. If you have half as much fun as we did, it will be worth it.
