I have always wanted to make a proper Christmas wreath, and this year my dreams have finally come true! My parents bought me a ticket to a wreath making workshop for my birthday present. I am so happy with how my contemporary Christmas wreath turned out.
I do love a traditional Christmas wreath, but I prefer something a little more modern for our house. When I saw Jemma from The Country Flower Company‘s wreath workshop advertised at Southwood Living, I knew this was the one for me. Jemma’s wreaths are so stunning, and have contemporary twists that suit my style perfectly.
Making My Contemporary Christmas Wreath
With the Christmas music playing, mince pies and prosecco in hand, Jemma showed us, how to create our Christmas wreaths.
She brought a simply gorgeous selection of flowers and berries, lengths of fir tree, eucalyptus, pine cones and cinnamon sticks.
I can’t believe how much goes into making these wreathes – we loaded them with pretties, from Christmas tree offcuts, three kinds of eucalyptus, roses, carnations and berries. We were like kids in a sweet shop!
Our wreath bases were made from oasis foam, soaked in water. We covered them in floristry moss, followed by a covering of Christmas tree offcuts, all going in the same direction.
Next, we added more greenery, including fragrant eucalyptus and two types of berries. Finally we added fresh flowers. We could use them thanks to the oasis base which acts like a vase of water for the fresh foliage and flowers.
This is Jemma’s florist-standard wreath. She added the red berries too, which look great on hers, but didn’t go well on mine for some reason!
My Finished Contemporary Christmas Wreath
So here is my finished wreath – ta da! It weighs an absolute tonne as it’s so loaded with blooms and greenery.
Don’t you just love the pink and purple flowers? I’d never have put them together myself but somehow they just work!
I’m so excited to make something so unique and special to welcome people to our house. When I came home with it, Ryan was very impressed. Ava didn’t want to put it up outside as she wants to be able to see it all the time as it’s so pretty!
We have hung the wreath next to our door, as Ryan wasn’t keen on banging a nail in to the door.
Have you made a wreath, or any other Christmas decorations? I will be doing this every year from now on, it’s the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit!
