Still searching for the perfect natural mascara? It’s not an easy task and I’ve tested my fair share of bad natural mascaras. However I have found some absolute gems including a few by Inika (I have linked to them all at the end of this post) and one by another of my favourite natural and eco conscious beauty brands, Love Ethical Beauty (formerly PHB Ethical Beauty). So will Love Ethical Beauty’s newer Mesmerise Organic Mascara live up to all my other favourite natural mascaras? Read on to find out in my Love Ethical Beauty Mesmerise Mascara review.

About Love Ethical Beauty Mesmerise Organic Mascara

This natural, organic mascara from Love Ethical Beauty has a lot of promises:

“This โ€˜false lash effectโ€™ mascara will give you darker, longer, fuller lashes with just one coat. Itโ€™s gentle to eyes, yet water-resistant and lasts all day without smudging or flaking.

Made with growth stimulating Biotin (Vitamin B7), Quinoa extract to lengthen and strengthen lashes, and deeply conditioning Organic Castor Oil to encourage fuller and healthier lashes with regular use.

pH balanced for very sensitive eyes. Great for eyes that react or water easily. Phenoxyethanol free.”

Love Ethical Beauty

The “Phenoxyethanol free” part of this is key, as this is an ingredient some people are sensitive to. if that’s you, and you’ve been disappointed that Love Ethical Beauty’s All in One Mascara contains it, this is your lucky day!

So did this natural, non-toxic mascara live up to this description? Read my review of Love Ethical Beauty Mesmerise Mascara to find out!

Love Ethical Beauty Mesmerise Organic Mascara Brush and Packaging

The sleek dark green aluminium and gold tube has a BPA-free liner, and looks super chic. It arrives in an FSC-certified cardboard box printed with soy inks. Both can be recycled in your normal household recycling (but remove the cap and brush first and repurpose or throw them away.)

“We use aluminium vials so together we can reduce reliance on plastic. Aluminium can be easily recycled and doesnโ€™t release harmful chemicals during the process.”

The brush is plastic, and it does a brilliant job of getting to the roots, and separating lashes as you comb through, so I rarely need to use an eyelash comb. It’s also slim, so it’s easy to use and accurate, meaning fewer tidy-up jobs with a cotton bud.

Love Ethical Beauty Mesmerise Mascara Results

I bought the Black version, but it comes in Brown too.

I’m very impressed. Love Ethical Beauty Mesmerise Organic Mascara adds both length and volume, and doesn’t clump. It’s easy to put on and I don’t need to comb my lashes through to separate them – they are well defined already. These photos show just how effective this mascara is. They are all untouched images. This is the finished effect, and if you scroll down you’ll see how the look builds up to two coats.

Love Ethical Beauty Mesmerise Mascara In Action

To show you the difference this mascara makes, I just used it on one eye to begin with. My lashes are naturally quite long, and have blonde tips, so although this result looks great, it hasn’t added as much length as it might look. This shows one eye with naked lashes and one with one coat of Love Ethical Beauty Mesmerise Mascara.

And this photos shows both eyes with two coats of Mesmerise Organic Mascara.

I advise letting the first coat dry for about five minutes, before you add another (if desired – you could totally just use one coat!)

Is Love Ethical Beauty Mesmerise Mascara Waterproof?

This natural mascara is classes as ‘water resistant’- I don’t think there is any such thing as a truly waterproof natural mascara as the formula needs to have special chemical polymers to make it waterproof. It lasts all day without running – though there are occasionally a few flakes beneath my eyes at the end of the day that can easily be brushed away.

My eyelashes stay looking great until I take it off at the end of the day, with just a few tiny flakes beneath my eyes which are easily brushed away.

Love Ethical Beauty Mesmerise Mascara’s Eco Credentials

The mascara has a pretty impressive list of eco credentials:

  • 100% naturally derived and ethically sourced
  • No parabens, alcohol, SLS/SLeS/ALS, PEG/ petrochemicals, palm oil, DEA/TEA/Phthalates, animal testing, animal ingredients, fragrance
  • Vegan
  • Halal
  • Suitable for sensitive eyes

Love Ethical Beauty Mesmerise Mascara Review

So would I recommend this natural mascara? Yes! It is a fantastic organic mascara giving really excellent lash looks and is full of natural and organic ingredients. Love Ethical Beauty are an excellent ethical company and this mascara is brilliant. It’s great that you can benefit from Love Ethical Beauty mascara now, even if you have problems with Phenoxyethanol.

Where to Buy Love Ethical Beauty Mesmerise Mascara

This Mesmerise mascara comes in black and brown.  It’s ยฃ24, so on a par with higher end mascaras, and considering how well it performs, and its eco-credentials, I think that is quite reasonable. It’s an excellent mascara, that doesn’t flake. It stays put well, though if you have watery eyes (like me!) you may notice a few minor runs below your eyes.

PS. I’ll let you in to a little secret: I have barely any eyebrows left after over-zealous plucking in the nineties. You can find out I get them to look a LOT fuller, and see the ‘before’ images, on my post about eyebrows.
