I’m in the process of reducing unnecessary chemicals from my beauty regime, with the help of Love Lula*, for whom I’m an accredited blogger. I’ve discovered some brilliant natural alternatives to my old mainstream beauty products, but didn’t know where to start with perfume.
Did you know that most conventional perfumes contain lots of chemicals? I just Googled ‘chemicals in perfumes’ and a rather alarming list popped up, including this article from Leaf.tv which explains the potential risks of common chemicals in fragrances. Leaf.tv say:
“Common ingredients found in perfumes are: acetone, ethanol, benzaldehyde, formaldehyde, limonene, methylene chloride, camphor, ethyl acetate, linalool and benzyl alcohol. Phthalates and synthetic musks are also commonly used potentially hazardous ingredients.”
Of course it’s wise to take these things with a pinch of salt. My philosophy is why take the risk, if you can find an alternative? But, trying to find a fragrance I like as much conventional perfumes is quite a daunting task!
Introducing Pacifica Roll On Perfume
I have recently been impressed with Pacifica Natural Lipsticks – click here to read my review. When I bought a second shade, I noticed that Pacifica also make fragrances. I popped a Pacifica Roll On Perfume in Waikiki Pikake into my shopping trolley too. It’s only £12 and is small enough to go in a handbag or make-up bag, perfect for holiday season!
The fragrance is held in natural, pure grain alcohol, and free of phthalates, parabens, mineral oils, propylene glycol, artificial colour, nitro-musks, and benzene. They are 100% vegan, gluten free and not tested on animals. This is the list of ingredients on the box.
This perfume does contain one of the ingredients called out in the article I linked to above: linalool, and I believe benzyl benzoate is form of benzyl alcohol. So this is not quite a chemical-free choice, but I think it is a vast improvement.
Pacifica Roll On Perfume in Waikiki Pikake
I chose this fragrance because because it’s Hawaiian inspired, and that’s where we spend half of our honeymoon. I looked at the fragrance description of my old perfumes and they both contain Jasmine, so I thought this was a good place to start. Doesn’t the description sound divine?
“In Hawaiian, pikake means both peacock and jasmine. Another native of the islands, Hawaiian sandalwood, or`iliahi, is mythic in status. Hawaii was once known as the “Sandalwood Mountains” since the highly regarded sandalwood trees forested the islands. This blend is a homage to the lush wooded and flowered paradise that was old Hawaii.”
Brook Harvey Taylor, Founder, Pacifica
The roll on perfume arrived and I love the smell. It’s really refreshing and floral. It also reminds me of a fragrance my mum wears, though I’m not sure what that one is.
It doesn’t smell that much like my conventional fragrances, however, which both have a sweet fragrance note, kind of like burnt sugar!
Mixing It Up with Pacifica Roll On Perfume in Indian Coconut Nectar
I decided to order another, sweet fragrance to see if mixing them together could create the fragrance I wanted. I chose Pacifica Roll On Perfume in Indian Coconut Nectar*. Pacifica describes this roll on perfume as “an ambrosial and sensuous blend inspired by travels to faraway destinations. Perfect for sexy, sultry and lusciously scented skin.”
Now I have to say, I can’t detect a whiff of coconut at all! It smells of vanilla to me. But luckily I love the smell of vanilla so it’s all good. It is a very sweet scent, so I would find it a little sickly to wear on its own. However it works well for my plan to wear them together! First, you smell the floral jasmine scent, and then you get a sweet vanilla fragrance.
How Well Do Pacifica Roll On Perfumes Last?
These roll on perfumes don’t last as long as a regular perfume, but the Waikiki Pikake fragrance lasts the best of the two, and is also my favourite. It lasts until the afternoon, but I would apply more if I was going out. As they are so small, you can always pop them in your bag and top up on the go! They are so much more convenient than lugging a big bottle of perfume about!
You can see the full range of Pacifica Roll On Perfumes at Love Lula*, priced at £12 each for 10ml. They are a good everyday replacement for my normal perfume, but I will still be using my big bottles for special occasions.
Why not Pin this for later?
