Introducing the New-Look Wavendon Arms, Milton Keynes

{Ad-Review} PR meal. All opinions are honest, as always.

This week, I was invited to the press sneak preview of the new-look Wavendon Arms in Milton Keynes. I mentioned it to a few friends beforehand, and they were confused about why it needed a makeover as it was already so lovely! But safe to say it’s certainly looking absolutely stunning now.

From the outside, the Wavendon Arms looks great, but nothing out of the ordinary. It has a lovely outdoor seating area and plenty of parking, and although a fairly unusual colour, you’d be forgiven for expecting to step into a traditional country pub. It used to be a white building, so this nice pop of teal is a lovely new look.

Inside the bar area of the new-look Wavendon Arms, you’ll find a plethora of luxe details. Marble, brass, and velvet are teamed with sumptuous dark tones that are so cosy yet chic.

The dining areas are slightly lighter, thanks to overhead skylights, but no less gorgeous.

The luxe touches extend upstairs to the toilets.

There are also quirky gallery walls – there is plenty to look at, wherever your gaze lands.

We were treated to delicious cocktails by the bar staff at the Wavendon Arms, including this delicious British Bramble.

I think this well-stocked gin bar may have been for the press night, so I’m not sure if you will experience it if you go, but isn’t it inviting?

So as you can tell, I love the way the Wavendon Arms looks, and it has a fantastic atmosphere. But what about the food? Well I’m pleased to say it lives up to the decor, however we did experience a few issues.

Appetisers at the Wavendon Arms

We arrived at 7.15 and our sharing plate of appetisers and drinks arrived at our bar table at 7.30, which was perfect. One of my friends has to have a gluten-free menu, and was given a separate plate, which were adapted to make them suitable for her.

They included miso aubergine, fishcakes, Caesar salad, duck liver pate and falafel.

Starters at the Wavendon Arms

We were moved to our table and the waiter took our order. My friend cannot eat wheat and asked for the gluten-free menu. It’s actually on an iPad, so she was able to look through and check the ingredients. She was disappointed that there were only two gluten-free starters, and they both have meat in them. So if you are a vegetarian and can’t have wheat, you couldn’t have a starter. However we did get round it, by asking for the baked camembert with gluten-free bread.

It was 9.30 before our starters arrived. Which considering we got there not long after 7 was a looooong time to wait. We were so hungry by the time the food arrived, we inhaled it.

I had the pizzette, which was a garlic flat bread with rocket and parmesan, and my friend had one with mozzarella and tomato. My photos do not do the food justice at all I’m afraid!

Main Courses at the Wavendon Arms

For our mains, two of us had steak, including me, and the other two had pork belly. There were only five gluten-free options, which considering the variety of dishes on offer on the main menu, seems low.

Again, apologies for the photos, it was really dark by the time we got our main courses at 10.20, and my iPhone couldn’t cope with it.

The steak and chips were absolutely delicious, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, as did my friend. The pork belly was also delicious according to my friends, though very filling. We did consider having a dessert, as there were some very tempting options on the menu. However by this time it was past 11 o’clock. We reluctantly decided to call it a night, as we didn’t think our digestive systems could take it!

My Verdict on The New-Look Wavendon Arms

We really enjoyed our evening at the Wavendon Arms, and the food, when it finally arrived, was all absolutely delicious. We experienced a similar delay when we went to the press night for the refurbished Black Horse, which I believe is part of the same group. I’ve been back several times since and always had speedy service. So hopefully it was just because it was so busy there on this night. The decor is gorgeous, and this pub and restaurant has a great atmosphere, and is a really comfortable place to relax.
