Subscription services are so convenient and perfect for busy people. I’ve found they are also ideal for our current situation, as delivery is contact-free, straight to your doorstep. But what about eco-friendly subscriptions? Here are my top 5 eco-friendly deliveries.
These eco-friendly delivery services are flexible, so you can order when you need a more, or on a regular basis. They are all great value, and some could even save you money as you help protect our environment – a win/win situation!
SMOL Eco-Friendly Subscriptons
I don’t know about you, but we seem to be running our dishwasher about twice as much as normal. With all of us home all day, we go through so many dishes and cups! So our SMOL eco-friendly dishwasher tablet subscription has really come into its own. We’ve also been using SMOL’s non-bio laundry capsules too, and we’re impressed by both the cleaning power and convenience.
It’s really easy to order these eco-friendly capsules online. You tell them how often you run your dishwasher or washing machine and they automatically work out when you’ll need a new packet, and send it to you.
Both products use less chemicals than leading brands, and use ethically sourced essential oils for fragrance. SMOL use recycled and recyclable cardboard packaging in clever child-lock boxes for safety.
Because the capsules are super-concentrated they don’t take as much packaging or energy to deliver. The package fits through the door, so it’s much more convenient than lugging big bottles home from the supermarket. They are also up to 50% cheaper than leading brands, at 16p a capsules.
SMOL do not test on animals or use any animal products, so they are great for vegans, and have Leaping Bunny and Peta certification.

Milk Subscription
Your local milkman or woman is the most traditional eco-friendly subscription service. We’ve been getting our milk delivered in reusable, recyclable glass milk bottles for over a year now and will never go back to buying in plastic cartons.
We use Milk & More for our milk delivery, as we don’t have a local milkman or woman. I think they are nationwide and we really rate their service.
Milk & More also deliver a range of dairy items, baked goods, pantry supplies and fresh fruit and veg. Over the last few months we have had bread, cheese, and butter from them, which has saved us having to go out to buy them. Although it’s not the cheapest way to shop, it’s been great during lockdown, as it’s using an existing delivery service.

Fruit and Veg Box Eco-Friendly Subscription
We’d be lost without our plastic-free fruit and veg delivery, from our local green grocers. It’s always fun seeing what they’ve included this week, and it definitely means we are eating more fruit and veg.
I have seen lots of people on social media saying their local green grocers are delivering. So if you’re interested in a veg box delivery, it’s worth getting in contact with your local greengrocer. It’s great to be able to shop locally and support small businesses at this difficult time, and have plenty of fresh produce to keep us healthy.
If not, I recommend getting an organic fruit and veg box from Abel & Cole.
The folks at Harvest to the Home have contact-free deliveries – you just leave the old empty box out on your drive or doorstep and they swap it over.
Who Gives a Crap Toilet Roll Subscription
We’ve been using plastic-free Who Gives a Crap Eco-Friendly Toilet Paper subscription on and off for a year or so now.
They sell 100% recycled paper toilet roll, and premium bamboo toilet paper, delivered in cardboard boxes. Each toilet roll comes wrapped in paper, which can be reused or recycled. I did think it was a bit strange to wrap each one individually, as that seems wasteful. But they say it’s to keep the rolls clean and dry during transit.
We’re impressed with the quality of the toilet paper, both 100% recycled paper and bamboo versions. It costs about the same, or even less than normal toilet roll from a supermarket, minus any single use plastic, because each roll is much more densely packed. They are a B Corp Certified company, and don’t use any inks, dyes or scents in their toilet paper.
If you’re interested in more ethical, plastic free toilet paper, check out my comparison between Who Gives a Crap, and Naked Sprout, vs regular supermarket recycled toilet roll here.
The toilet rolls come in enormous boxes of 48 or 96 rolls, so storage can be an issue. We split a box with my brother so it’s easier to store. We had by chance made an order the week before the great toilet roll shortage and have plenty. I’ve never been so pleased to have toilet roll!
Natural Beauty Box Subscription
All of my other eco-friendly subscriptions have been fairly functional. But this eco-friendly beauty subscription is a real treat.
UPDATE: Love Lila has ceased trading, which is really sad. I haven’t bought a new beauty subscription box but I do think this one from The Natural Beauty Box looks nice, if you want to treat yourself.
I’ve discovered my favourite natural beauty brands though beauty subscriptions, including Madara, Laidbare and Inika.
