Mascara. It’s a staple in most make-up bags, and I’m always looking for a new one to try. Since swapping my beauty products for natural, clean alternatives, I have found some great ones. These include PHB Ethical Mascara which you can read about here, and Inika Long Lash Vegan Mascara, which you can read about here. These are both winners for me, so how does Hiro’s 100% natural, vegan mascara rate? Read my Hiro Mascara review to find out.

I’m a big fan of Hiro’s natural (yet incredibly pigmented) lipstick which you can read about here.
About Hiro Mascara
This mascara is 100% natural and vegan, and comes in a matte black tube, with a shiny black cap.
It’s shorter than any other mascara tube I’ve used, which is deliberate, to use less plastic. It comes in a small recycled cardboard box. Hiro Mascara has a traditional bristle brush, which I always prefer as I think it gives better definition.
Hiro say “The unique formula is conserved with a special herbal mix and contains coffee which helps promote lash growth and health. This almost entirely organic mascara is easy to apply, smudge-free, waterproof and stays put all day. It’s also ideal for sensitive eyes.”
I have found this to be true, apart from the smudge-free part. Unfortunately a few hours after wearing it, I do sometimes notice little smudges beneath my eyes. Other than that though, it’s a fantastic mascara. It does need quite a bit of extra effort to separate the lashes, so it’s not one to use when you’re in a big rush!
How Hiro Mascara Looks on Me
This is how Hiro Mascara looks with one coat:
This is how Hiro Mascara looks with two coats:
As you can see, you can built both volume and length by adding a second coat, without it going all clumpy. This mascara is very pigmented, giving a really rich black colour. I love the way it looks, but it is a little messy to apply as it’s quite wet. I also find I need to comb my lashes through a few times with a lash comb, as they can stick together.
One thing I have only recently discovered is that this mascara doesn’t go well with rain. I got caught in a rain shower and had quite a bit of smudging under my eyes. It was easy to tidy up, and the lashes themselves still looked pretty good, so although some of it ran, it didn’t all come off.
