Facial suncream for oily skin It can be a bit of a nightmare finding one that protects well, and doesn’t make you look like either a ghost, or an oil slick. Last year I reviewed six natural or organic facial sunscreens and found some I liked a lot. But, ever keen to try something new, I have been putting REN Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30 through its paces. So does this mattifying mineral facial sunscreen live up to the high expectations I have from this well-loved clean beauty brand? Read on to find out!
About REN Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30
REN’s mattifying face sunscreen has broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection, blue light protection, non-nano technology, is made with naturally derived ingredients and is Vegan. The Zinc Oxide protection means it’s not harmful to marine life, as it’s free from oxybenzone.
“Our silicone-free mineral face sunscreen is good for skin and the cleanest possible to the planet with 22% non-nano naturally derived Zinc Oxide. Meet your no-shine, sensitive-skin-friendly sun protection for daily use. The Zinc Oxide sits gently on the skins surface as a barrier against sun damage, and will not clog pores, cause allergies or irritate sensitive skin.”
REN CLEAN SKINCARE

The bright yellow squeezy tube looks cheerful and is easy to use. REN use 50% recycled plastic to create the tube, which is apparently the maximum they can while protecting the formula. The cap is 100% recycled plastic. Plus being a one-type plastic, it’s designed to be recycled again after use, as is the cardboard carton.
REN Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30 Swatches
This clean suncream is quite thick at first, a similar consistency to cream cheese. But it spreads well and disappears on my fair skin as you rub it in. It doesn’t leave a white caste, though it does take a bit more rubbing in around the eyebrows.

This clean sunscreen does have quite a peculiar smell that I’m not keen on, however it quickly fades, fortunately. It doesn’t sting my eyes, which I’ve found with some other sun creams.
How Does REN Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30 Look and Feel?
This mattifying mineral sunscreen makes a great base for make-up, as you can see here. The first image is first thing in the morning with freshly-applied make-up. The second is in the evening and you can see my make-up still looks even, and almost as matte.

I found my make-up lasted as well as it normally does, with a little shine break through, which I would get with any face cream or sunscreen. These photos haven’t been edited, and I didn’t touch up my make-up at all between photos.
So all in all, the REN Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30 gets a big thumbs up from me. From what I’ve read, non-nano zinc is the safest form of sunscreen. To find a formula that doesn’t pill, make me break out, look shiny, or sting my eyes is a win for me.
UPDATE: I can’t find this clean sunscreen for sale anywhere at the moment, so recommend you look at my review of KRI Skincare Tinted Mineral SPF30 instead here, as it is excellent.
